I got a little caught up in the whole Venus crossing the sun thing, but with nearly half of our house sick, I didn’t really have time to think about it until almost sunset. You know, the witching hour of jammies, brushing teeth, storytime, bedtime. That time of day when the adults are ready to wind down and and the kids are just getting started. That time of day when one errant step leads you down a path of uncontrollable giggles or inexplicable tears.

We were actually running ahead of schedule. And then I remembered.

Once in a lifetime.

So. Kids in jammies, H#3 temporarily asleep, me with my nightly Momma’s-still-gotta-do list, we ventured down the driveway to see what we might be able to see.

We weren’t disappointed. We didn’t see Venus — or much of the sun — because of the clouds, but we saw a beautiful sunset.

Watched hay being baled.

Ran down the driveway in jammies.

Stopped in our tracks to look at interesting rocks.

Marveled at the wonder of — in lieu of a much-needed early bedtime — being allowed outside after all the nightly ritual stuff was already done.
